CATHERINE C. & BRUCE A. BASTIAN STUDY ABROAD SCHOLARSHIPS
About the Scholarships
The Catherine C. and Bruce A. Bastian Scholarship fund was established to increase students’ awareness of and involvement in international activities. The study abroad scholarship funds are designated in part to support International Studies majors who study abroad on a University of Illinois-sponsored or affiliated program to fulfill the requirement for their major. Scholarships of $1,000 are available for fall or spring semesters. Funds are credited to the student’s University of Illinois account in the term that their required study abroad occurs.
Application Deadlines: The deadlines for 2008 - 2009 study abroad are March 14th for fall term or academic year and October 15th for spring term. To download an application, please click here.

National Security Education Program (NSEP) Scholarships
The National Security Education Program (NSEP) provides study abroad scholarships of $6,000-$20,000 for a full academic year, $4,000-$10,000 for a semester, or $2,500-$8,000 for a summer session of at least 6 weeks. Scholarships may be used for U.S. citizens to study in Asia, Africa, Central & Eastern Europe, Latin America, or the Middle East on almost any study abroad program. These are merit-based scholarships (approximately 1 in 5 eligible applicants received awards for study abroad in 2006-07, including four UIUC students). In order to receive the scholarship, award winners must enter into a service agreement requiring that they attempt to work in a paid position for the federal government in either the Departments of State, Defense, Homeland Security, or the Intelligence Community within three years of graduation (deferrals possible/encouraged for graduate study). Winners also receive priority-hiring status. Further information is available at http://www.ips.uiuc.edu/scholarship/NSEPprocess.shtml
